Plymouth has built a national reputation as a thriving community offering an excellent quality of life. Its lakes and rolling terrain provide the backdrop for a blend of well-planned residential, business and commercial-industrial areas.
Residents and community leaders have placed a high priority on establishing a first-rate park system, interconnecting trails and diverse recreation facilities. As the community has matured, the city has worked with residents to permanently preserve natural open-spaces, nurture the arts and protect the environment.
Whether traveling to downtown Minneapolis for work or play, hop on Interstate 394 and head west 12 miles to reach your destination. Should you want to enjoy the shopping and dining experience of Uptown or enjoy a free concert at the Lake Harriet Bandshell, you can be there in about 22 minutes.
Plymouth is a picturesque community that includes six bodies of water, 144.5 miles of trails, open spaces, and a premier park system that offers its residents options for both passive and active recreation. Bike, run or walk through scenic rolling terrain, honeycombed with paths and trails linking neighborhoods and commercial areas with parks and open spaces.
Enjoy 53 city parks covering an area of 1200 acres where you can choose from a multitude of available activities such as swimming, fishing, boating, volleyball, softball, basketball, disc golf, and tennis. If you feel less ambitious, enjoy a picnic and relax by one of the lakes with a good book.
Regional Parks include Clifton E French Regional Park, which runs along the north shore of Medicine Lake, and Eagle Lake Regional Park, located on Plymouth and Maple Grove. An opportunity for winter and summer recreational activities includes biking, hiking, cross-country skiing, and snowshoeing. While you are there, you might check out the famous Eagle Lake Youth Golf Center. Both of these Parks are managed by the Three Rivers Park system.
In winter, walk, run, jog, or play soccer and softball on the state-of-the-art artificial grass under the inflated dome of the Fieldhouse. If ice-skating interests you, take figure skating lessons, play a hockey game, or glide over the ice at the Plymouth Ice Center.
Enjoy a tranquil afternoon enjoying the lush beauty of the Millennium Garden located on the grounds of the Plymouth Creek Center. Stroll through the flower gardens, meander along the trails and walkways. Get lost in the labyrinth and listen to the water bubbling in the fountains. Perched on the edge of the garden is the Plymouth Creek Center, a gathering place for special events, cultural and educations programs, and other social activities. The Hilde Performance Center is a 45-foot tall open-air facility and home of Music in Plymouth, a yearly event that brings the famed Minnesota Orchestra to its raised stage. It also serves as the venue for other summer concerts and performing arts events.
In part, thanks to the Arts Council, you can view art exhibits at the Plymouth Creek Center. They also sponsor Primavera, a Springtime Celebration of the Arts, including a juried art show with musical, literary, and dramatic entertainment. They also provide partial funding to the Concert Band Series, and the Plymouth Reads programs.
Plymouth offers a variety of community services such a Senior Activity Program, Community Action of Suburban Hennepin, which provides homeownership counseling and workshops; Home Line, which provides services to renters, People Responding in Social Ministry (PRISM), which supplies transportation for medical appointments and other needs, Senior Community Service which aids seniors in need of assistance with snow shoveling and yard maintenance, Family Hope Services which sponsors Treehouse, a program for at-risk youth, and YMCA Point Northwest Program for Runaway Youth.
