Big Lake

City of Big Lake

Big Lake is known locally for its annual summer festival “Spud Fest,” which celebrates all things potato-related.

Big Lake is a rapidly growing community in Sherburne County, Minnesota, located along the banks of Big and Mitchell Lakes. Big Lake is located about 45 miles from the Minneapolis/St. Paul International Airport and 24 miles from the St. Cloud Regional Airport.

Big lake is located just north of Minneapolis and is a great spot to cool off. Many of the over 10,000 lakes in Minnesota don’t have large public sand beaches. Big lake offers traditional MN boating but also has an incredible beach. It’s just $5 per vehicle to park for the day.

Another big lake benefit is the photo (82)kids playground. It overlooks the lake and they even have surfing for Minnesotans (notice the surfing isn’t in the water haha).

We enjoy filling up our tubes and floating around. When you visit as many shores as we do you become masters of sand castles and we had kids come over to learn how to make a moat.

The 2020 Census reports the City of Big Lake’s population to be 11,686 and Big Lake Township’s to be 7,924, totaling 19,610. Since 2015, there have been over 1,000 units of housing, both single family and rental, developed in Big Lake. With the population growth comes new businesses and redevelopment projects.
